Small Town Texas Photographs by Ricardo Romo The Institute of Texan Cultures will host UTSA President Ricardo Romo’s Small Town Texas photo exhibition. Small Town Texas, curated by Arturo Almeida, presents poetic landscapes captured in many small towns, including Floresville, Devine, Pearsall, Kingsbury, Cuero, Yoakum, and Nixon. President Ricardo Romo's photographs convey the learned observations of a historian. The works in this exhibit examine the historical nature of small towns in Texas. A dedicated observer of the small communities that dot the Texas horizon, he embarked on a photographic journey with the goal of documenting the cultural and social features of a fading way of life. President Romo became the fifth president of The University of Texas at San Antonio in May 1999. A native of San Antonio’s West Side, he graduated from Fox Tech High School and attended The University of Texas at Austin where he received a bachelor of science in education. He holds a master's degree in history from Loyola Marymount University and a Ph.D. in history from the University of California-Los Angeles.
